Life isn’t perfect, but it is beautiful! That is This Blonde’s state of mind. Who is This Blonde? This Blonde is anyone who is searching for that dash of magic, that intangible substance that already resides inside all of us. I want to share some tips on dressing, eating, exercise, beauty routines and entertaining. I wish to offer shortcuts for younger women who have yet to go through the journey I have been through, basic nuggets of trial and error wisdom. I would like to encourage older women who may find themselves needing to create new beginnings, post divorce or after a job loss. This Blonde is everyone; she is you and she is me. (Or she is I, if you grammar purists insist!) And This Blonde is a technology for all of us seeking a more fulfilled life. She began with inspiring thoughts I launched on Facebook and Twitter, and due to the overwhelming response from various people, I decided This Blonde needed her very own site.
I am This Blonde, a regular person- not a celebrity- tapped into her own authenticity and living and inspiring others to take on their own Inner Blonde lives. We can all be This Blonde; a woman of the twenty-first century, who is in charge, making a life, a successful life, without excuses. She works, she lives, she loves. There can be no I CANT’S! It’s about letting this girl, this woman, this flirt, this businesswoman, this artist, this scientist, this wife, mother, single lady, embrace both her sweet inner flower child and her intense straight-laced citizen. It’s about finding that committed loving place inside the self. I am presenting this message to everyone who wants this message. There are NO MUSTS. Suggestions from This Blonde merely indicate what I do, what works for me, not necessarily what you HAVE to do. Everything here can work for everyone, in essence. This Blonde is not an automaton. She can take from the ideas she likes and add her own spin to my dining and dressing and other choices. For example, I often wear black, but she may prefer blue. I eat meat but she may not. She is completely free to enter the untapped places of her own being. Whoever she is, she should lose all of her timeworn excuses. Most of us spend our lives making excuses: “I can’t entertain because I don’t have the right service.” Buy some pretty mismatched dishes at the flea market or a garage sale! “I can’t exercise because I can’t afford a gym membership.” Purchase a couple of inexpensive five or ten pound dumbbells. Or even lift small plastic bottles containing water or sand. “I can’t diet or…. or….or….or.…” Losing I CAN’T and surpassing I DON’T KNOW HOW is very empowering. Take what you like from This Blonde. I’m offering something simple, but something that can be personalized. It’s all a state of mind, releasing your own Inner Blonde. Learn to love thyself, no matter what color hair you possess (or don’t possess, in the case of a lovely Blonde I know with alopecia, the autoimmune disease that causes hair loss).
I chose the term This Blonde because of the way the world views blondes, as showgirls and movie stars and Miss Americas (although most beauty queens have actually been brunette), and as socialites and CEO’s wives and CEO’s themselves. I selected Blonde because of the vibrancy people associate with the nomenclature. Fascinating women have often been portrayed as fair-haired, whether they were or not. Medieval, Renaissance and Flemish painters portrayed the Virgin Mary, Mary Magdalene, St. Catherine and a myriad other saints as Blonde. Such masters as Botticelli, Titian and Rubens were especially fond of painting a variety of beauties as golden-haired. Greek and Roman Goddesses have often been depicted as Blonde. Lady Godiva and Joan of Arc have also been portrayed as sandy-headed gals on horseback. And Walt Disney Animation has a history of presenting numerous heroines as Blonde, most recently in ‘Frozen’, where Queen Elsa is a platinum Blonde and Princess Anna a strawberry Blonde. Although there is no indication from the Brothers Grimm, Charles Perrault or Lewis Carroll that Sleeping Beauty, Cinderella and Alice in Wonderland possessed wheat hued hair, most of us grew up seeing them this way, just as the little girls of today might be mesmerized by Disney’s Rapunzel. Blonde has historically been linked to gold, which represents numerous virtues in many cultures: wealth, goodness, and beauty. Gold is also associated with luck and magic. And, perhaps most importantly here, I choose Blonde because I have decided to be a Blonde, which is no longer my natural hair color.
Most adult Blondes are self-made (or salon manufactured), but just as real as any fair-haired child. What follows are shortcuts to an authentic life and this is what I am offering, what I have learned. Take them. Or if they are not ideal for you, find your own. This is my spirit. These are my thoughts and ideals. Nobody needs This Blonde, but the concept may open your eyes to aspects of womanhood that you may have forgotten. Take joy in setting a table with a linen placemat just for you! Wear beautiful lingerie for yourself. Enjoy your own hospitality, imagination and love simply and gloriously by being you. Be comfortable in the day to day.
And why not partake in the glamour of a little black dress, sexy sandals, and that fabulous new restaurant you have been meaning to try?
I am This Blonde and I love to be with family and friends, at home preparing meals. And I am not a 5-Star chef. I need to make it simple. I leave it to that fabulous restaurant to prepare the complicated recipes.
I am someone who has lost a marriage, who has been disappointed in both love and work. I have skinned my knees countless times, suffered all sorts of financial setbacks due to others’ greed. I have rebelled against limitations. Challenged unprecedented situations. Survived being a single mom. Recovered from life-threatening illnesses. I have been near monetary ruin. Yet I have learned how not to lose control, how not to let anger take anything away. I have embraced simple actions, like squeezing my fingers when I really want to explode, or sipping fresh lemon juice in warm water first thing in the morning to introduce a blessed day. Because it is good for me. And good for you too.
I’m still looking for love. And despite several disappointments, I remain open to true passion. I have just changed careers and am out on my own. I said I’d do it; I would abandon comfortable cushioning, even after years of enormous success and extremely handsome earnings in a corporate environment, because I have always desired my own business.
I have fallen down. I have cracked ribs. And I have stood back up.
The first thing, before anything else, is to take care of you, your own inner Blonde.
That is what This Blonde has learned.
